OUR STORY
WHERE IT STARTED
Tonbridge ABC was set up in 2022 with one aim - to create a space where people could box, grow and belong. We started small, with just two Saturday morning sessions at the Tonbridge Youth Hub - a class for kids aged 6-9, and another for those aged 10-15. At the time, it was just a handful of coaches and a lot of heart.
In April 2023, we officially gained charity status - something we're hugely proud of. It's helped us expand our work beyond boxing and keep sessions as inclusive as possible.
As word spread, so did the demand. In early 2024, we were offered a larger space at the YMCA, which allowed us to run more sessions and open the doors to more people of all ages and backgrounds. Today, we've got over 500 registered members and run 9 community sessions every week, from ages 6, from beginners to competitive boxers.
WE'LL NEVER FORGET...
September 2024 marked a huge moment for us - our first ever competitive boxer stepping into the ring. That was followed not long after by our first junior boxer, and then our first girl to compete. These moments reminded us why we started. It's about showing young people what's possible when they're given the chance.
WE'VE STAYED TRUE TO OUR ROOTS
Accessible: Low-cost sessions. We offer as much as we can, to as many as we can, for as little as we can.
Inclusive: Open to all ages, abilities and backgrounds.
Community-led: Powered by volunteers, donation and community.
Boxing is still at the centre of what we do - but it's also the tool we use to support people's physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Whether it's helping someone bounce back from a tough time or chase a dream.
We're so proud of what we've built so far, but we're not finished. Every day we're working to grow stronger, reach further and keep proving that a boxing club can be more than just a gym.
TABC was built by the community for the community.
